Five Fruits of Learning
Our Five Fruits of Learning are concepts that we reinforce throughout the day in our morning meetings, during academics and social activities.
Gratitude: We show gratitude in many ways: complimenting a friend, showing appreciation, telling someone what we’re grateful for and writing in our gratitude journals.
Self Regulation: We use the Zones of Regulation program to help children develop emotional regulation. Each Zone represents a set of emotions. Children learn about each Zone and to identify what Zone they are feeling at any given time. Kids are taught to use coping strategies to get them and keep them in the Green Zone where we are most content and comfortable.
Kindness: Children are taught to recognize kindness in others and demonstrate kindness themselves. We use the Bucket Filling metaphor based on the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today?: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids by Carol McCloud. When a child demonstrates kindness to another person, they receive a 'bucket filler' and so does the other child. We try to avoid 'bucket dipping' by teaching kindness and appreciation throughout the day.
Goals: Individual goals are set for the day in our morning meeting. This is the time when we discuss what we might need to work on. This can be anything from remembering to drink water or getting all your work done independently.
Mindfulness: Children are taught to be mindful. When we are mindful, we stay in the present moment and focus on the task at hand. Being mindful means that we aren't thinking of what hasn't happened or what has happened. We are thinking about right now. We use a variety of techniques to improve mindfulness.
Mission & Vision
To provide children with the same opportunities as their same aged peers, using individualized strategies, leading to academic success.
Who We Are
We are a small group of parents and educators who believe children can be their best when they are given the right tools for success.
What We Believe
We firmly believe that a socially and emotionally regulated child can achieve anything.
Core Beliefs
1 - A small child to adult ratio optimizes learning
2 - A strong foundation in social and emotional learning leads to greater success and happiness throughout life.
3- Behavior and academic potential are two different things although often lumped together. When a child faces difficulties in their school day, we use a variety of strategies to get them on the right track again, while allowing others to continue their learning.
